Sago Street aka Street of the Dead

It was an interesting encounter with this street. When where heard of this street we thought that it was named sago street because there were alot of sago seeds along this road but there were more than just sago seeds in the history of this road. It is known as the Street of the Dead during colonial times. Many of the chinese migrants were poor and could not afford medicines to be cured of their sickness.
There were houses in this street to house the dead.

Those who entered these death houses do not expect to be recovered from their sickness thus to die. However there will be a proper funeral for the dead after they had died. This street was conserved could be because to show how these migrant workers lived during those times. After these dead houses were outlawed in 1961, funeral paraphernalia were sold and until today it is still there. Most of the shops here sells touristy items for tourist to take back and remember what this place used to be, This street really taught us that not every one had an easy life back then in colonial times.
